A.P.HORTICULTURE TRAINING INSTITUTE
The Andhra Pradesh Horticulture Training Institute was established in the year 2002 as there was a growing realization that knowledge is the most critical input of Horticulture development. The core competency of the Horticulture Department is provision of extension services i.e. dissemination of knowledge and not subsidy distribution. Hence, the Department of Horticulture established a training institute in an area of about 2.5 acres land and conducting trainings under State Horticulture Mission.
 
  OBJECTIVES :

    • To identify the training needs of the department.
    • Impart in – service training to technical staff of the department in modern technologies in different    sectors of horticulture i.e. from production to post – harvest management and marketing.
    • To impart training to progressive horticulture farmers of the state.
    • To provide professional training on value added ornamental horticulture.

  INSTITUTE FACILITIES :

This is the apex-training Institute in the State for Horticulture

The Institute is will equipped with:

 


1. Two Lecture Halls with capacity of 30 persons in each classroom also      equipped with LCD projector in Air condition and it can be leased out to      outsiders also on nominal rental basis of Rs.1000/- for eight hours.


2. One conference hall with capacity of 80 persons equipped with LCD Projector     and public address system to each person and it can also leased out to     outsiders on nominal rental basis for Rs.2500/- for eight hours whenever the     departmental programmers are not there.

3. One Computer Lab.

4. Library well equipped with technical books.

5. One Hostel of 60 beds in two floors and 60 people can be accommodated in     the Hostel at a time. The Hostel has good kitchen, Dining hall and solar water     heating facility to all rooms.

Diploma / Certificate Courses Offered by the Institute :

Besides the normal training programmes the Institute is offering three long-term courses.
  • One year P.G.Diploma course on Land Scape Gardening in collaboration with JNTU, Hyderabad. The 1st Batch of P.G.Diploma has passed out in September 2003. So far 2 Batches have completed the course.

School of Gardening :

For the first time the department has established a school of Gardening in A.P.Horticulture Training Institute. Five batches have completed and the period of training course is 3 months.

School of Micro Irrigation :

A two months certificate course has been commenced in the Institute to train ITI candidates to work as field level workers in the Micro irrigation field. By 20th July 2004, four batches have completed the certificate course.

Collaboration with other Institutions :


The Institute has the following collaborations:
1. JNTU --To conduct P.G.Diploma in Landscape Gardening
2. Nursery Industry --To conduct one month apprenticeship for students of School of Gardening.
3. Micro Irrigation --To conduct five weeks apprenticeship for students of Micro Irrigation Certificate.
