LIST OF MAJOR PROGRAMMES / SCHEMES, ITS MANDATE, GOALS AND POLICY FRAME WORK
 
A.
STATE PLAN
   
I.  
Promotion of Horticulture Activities (Development of Fruits / Vegetables
/ R&T/ Spices / M&AP / Floriculture / IPM / INM / MNM / Organic farming / HRD - Training and Exposure visits / awareness programme)
   
 
  
To bring additional area under various horticulture crops with new varieties, adoption of latest package of practices, supply of elite quality plant material / hybrid seeds etc..
  
To increase the productivity in the existing gardens by rejuvenation and intercropping.
  
To promote new technologies like green house cultivation, use of tissue culture plants, shadenets, mulching etc.,
  
To reduce post harvest losses by supplying PP equipment and farm mechanization.
  
To promote organic farming and IPM / INM / MNM.
  
To upgrade the skills and knowledge on latest package of practices and technologies of the progressive farmers through training and exposure visits conducted by horticulture training institute.
  
To enhance the quality and boost the exports through IPM / INM, organic farming etc.,
  
To create awareness by conducting shows and seminars.
   
 
II.  
Promotion of new technologies – Post Harvest Management
   
 
  
The objective of the scheme is to create pre and post harvest infrastructure by providing assistance as the capital investment is high besides supplying PP equipment and post harvest tools, brand promotion and reduce post harvest losses.
   
 
III.  
Forest and wild life – Public gardens (Staff & development)
   
 
  
It is an ongoing scheme. The provision includes staff salaries of Government Gardens wing, development and maintenance of residential gardens of Council of Ministers, Hon’ble Judges. Beautification of public garden through soft and hard land scaping.
   
 
IV.  
Horticultural extension needs (Staff scheme)
   
 
  
It is an ongoing staff scheme and it includes the maintenance of mushroom laboratories (6 Nos) in the State, horticulture training institute, biotechnology center and information technology and data management

Oilpalm Development
   
 
  
To bring additional area under oilpalm and to train the farmers in new technologies

To transfer the available technology on the management of disease affected areas.
  
To share the farmers experience in the manage.

National Horticulture Mission
   
 
  
To provide holistic growth of the horticulture sector through an area based regionally differentiated strategies which include research, technology promotion, extension, post harvest management, processing and marketing, in consonance with comparative advantage of each region and its diverse agro-climatic feature
  
To enhance horticulture production, improve nutritional security and income support to farm households;
  
To establish convergence and synergy among multiple on-going and planned programmes for horticulture development;
  
To promote, develop and disseminate technologies, through a seamless blend of traditional wisdom and modern scientific knowledge;
  
To create opportunities for employment generation for skilled and unskilled persons, especially unemployed youth;

MICRO IRRIGATION
   
 
  
Conservation of precious ground water resources and effective water management through adoption of micro irrigation for increasing quality and production.
